Covid19 Update from the Committee

Dear All,

We hope you have all survived these troubled times and have managed to continue with some training of some sort! It is great to be back contemplating some possible Club actions.  Back in March, we wrote out to let you know that the closure of Ashbourne pool meant the end of our coached swim sessions for a while.  We are now in July and British Triathlon have updated their guidance, in alignment with Swim England and government guidelines so we hope to restart soon!

We’d like to give you an update on what we are doing, what to expect and also to ask you all to give us an idea of which sessions you would be most interested in attending.

Our 3 key sessions are Tuesday 9pm coached pool swim, Thursday 6pm Open Water Swim and diarised weekend Darley Moor coached bike sessions and in the short term, at least, these sessions will have limited numbers, to ensure your safety.

Tuesday coached pool swims:

Whilst pools will be able to open shortly, we are waiting to hear from Freedom Leisure to confirm a date and what their new pool procedures will be.  They have been in touch to gage our interest and we have confirmed we would like to restart the session, if possible.

British Triathlon and Swim England guidance enables a level 2 or 3 coach to run a session for a maximum of 3 ‘bubbles’ (defined groups) of 5 people.  Given the size of Ashbourne pool, we expect to be able to accommodate 2 swim lanes with a maximum of 10 people in the session, in order to achieve optimal and safe social distancing.  The other requirements we will need to adopt include no overtaking or meeting at end of the pool, with no equipment or floats being used in the session (so now is a good time to go and buy a kickboard, pull buoy & paddles as we use these regularly in our sessions). Additionally, swimmers need to arrive pool-ready and then leave without changing.  We think all of this is manageable and with reduced numbers, we will look to subsidise the swim sessions to make them accessible to all club members.

Coached cycling sessions – Darley Moor

Darley Moor plan to reopen next week and this is possibly the easiest session for us to set up quickly (however the club will need risk assessment for pre, during and post coached bike sessions).  Thankfully Steve has offered to be our club Covid lead, which we hugely appreciate.  Please could you let us know if you would be interested in attending a coached bike session so we can start to plan.

Open Water Swimming

We realise everybody wants to make the most of the open water swimming season and we are in touch with Hall Croft Farm to establish if and when they plan to open for this season.  We are also reviewing British Triathlon guidance to ensure our session are conducted safely.  Bear with us and we will update you as soon as we have news

Booking and payment

In order to protect our club members, cashless transactions are necessary, so we have card readers set up to take payment for sessions.  We will need to book places for each session so they are not oversubscribed.  We will let you know more as the sessions are confirmed.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon and hope that we get back to training in the next few weeks.

Please do tell us about which sessions you would be interested in attending.

All the very best,

Caroline
